EMPR200

Hi!

I’m Rachel, a 4th-year biology student here at Queens, and also a bartender. Throughout my undergrad, I have had the privilege of serving at four different restaurants. In the future, I hope to become a midwife.

I am interested in this course because of the way in which it focuses on shape work and employment relations in Canada. I believe this online interaction will be helpful in my future employment relations within the work force. More specifically, i’m interested employment law and human behaviour in organizations discussions within this class.

  1. Hi Rachel!

I’m also in fourth year (though I’m studying Psychology)! I don’t know too much about midwifery, but it sounds like a very interesting and fulfilling profession. How do you think this course would help you in pursuing this career?

    Thanks for sharing!!

PS I think working as a bartender is SO cool!! It’s something I’ve always been interested in but never had the guts to do!

    1. HI Taylor,

Thanks for replying! Psychology seems so crazy, never had the opportunity to take any of the classes but wish I did! Thanks again for commenting!

  2. Hi Rachel! It has been really interesting for me to see the different programs and uniqueness of everyone taking this course. Someone pursuing a career as a midwife might have been the last person I would have guessed to be taking EMPR 200. However, it seems as though this course can be relevant to someone in any field of study.

I recently got my smart serve certificate, just because it seemed useful to have. I’d be interested to know what you’ve already learned about employment relations through your experience working in a bar/restaurant environment. A more fast-paced job seems like it would have more unpredictability and variables, where decisions have to be made without very much thought.

    Thanks for the post!!
